Walter was born in 1860 in Shotley.  Walter's father was Thomas LAMBERT and his mother was Harriet HARVEY.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Miller LAMBERT and Susanna SEELEY. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Frederick, George, Thomas, Ann, Emily and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
