Alpheus was born on May 12th, 1791 in Orpington and his christening took place there on June 5th, 1791.  Alpheus' father was John JEAL and his mother was Susannah WHIFFEN.  His paternal grandparents were William JEAL and Elizabeth TODMAN. He had eight brothers and a sister, named Adolphus, John, William, Charles, Tiras, Richard, Phillip, Harvey and Anne.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 75 in September 1866.  The funeral took place on September 21st, 1866 in Orpington.
