Charles was born on January 14th, 1834 in Shoreditch and his baptism took place there on June 30th, 1837.  Charles' father was William FIELDING and his mother was Ann CRUMP.  His maternal grandparents were Benjamin CRUMP and Ann. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William, George, Ann and Emily.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
