It appears that Mary lost her parents early.  She was living with John and Hannah Wilson and family in 1841 at Hope, working as the farmers servant.  She was in Nottinghamshire in 1851 working as a dairy maid.

According to the 1861 census, Mary was born in Hope, Derbyshire.  There is a Mary Marsh working as a servant at Winkbourn in 1851.  She recorded her place of birth as Borough, which is almost the same place.  Perhaps George was on holiday there, as this is a popular holiday resort, near to the railway (although Mary was working in Nottinghamshire in 1851).

In 1881, Frederick is living with George and Ann Mather in Bolton West.

In 1891, Frederick was living with younger brother George and family.

A Frederick William Mather married Elizabeth Smalley in 1894 in Manchester, which may be him, but there was another, born in Manchester.

Frederick died in 1900, aged 42, and most probably never married.  He was living at 77 Grasmere Street, Bolton. 1860 - 1940 Clara Ann Mather 80 80 Living in Little Bolton with Parents Samuel and Mary Mather in 1861.

Listed on 1881 census with brothers Frederick, George and parents George and "Ann" (Stepmother).  Living at 13 Newton Street, Bolton.

In 1939, Clara A Nelson (79) was living with Ettie and Christopher Haslam 1826 - 1903 Ann Calderbank 77 77 Ann is Georges second wife.  They married in 1866, 1 year after the death of his first wife, Mary.

In 1881 George A (19) is with Frederick (23), Clara A (21) and parents George and "Ann" (Stepmother).  Living at 13 Newton Street, Little Bolton.

In 1891, George "Alfred" is married and family is living at Astley Bridge, Lancashire.  Georges older brother Frederick is also living with them.

In 1901 the family is living at 141 Holland Street, Sharples.

In 1906, George Alfred is living at Westminster Road, Astley Bridge.  He went with his father to play bowls, the day his father died.

Between 1916 and 1932, three of George's children married at Seymour Road Wesleyan Chapel, Astley Bridge.

In 1821, George Alfred Mather was at Bolton with wife Ellen, May and 4 others..

George and Ellen lived at 26 Westminster Road, Astley Bridge.  This was their final home (as shown on both their probate records) 1866 - 1933 Ellen Guest 67 67 Ellen had left the Guest family house by 1891. 

In 1891, Ellen is married and family is living at Astley Bridge, Lancashire.  Georges older brother Frederick is also living with them.

In 1921, there is a Lily Mather of correct age living (possible a servant) in Bolton and not with her family.

In 1923, Lily Mather married Fred Saxon at Bolton (civil).  In 1934, Lily and Fred were living at 34 Gerrard Street, Farnworth.  They had 4 children including Lorrain in 1925 at Farnworth.  The 1939 register show this Lily and Fred were born 12-Jul-1900 and 29-Jun-1897. However there is no Lily Mather birth registered (in Lancashire) for 1900. 1895 - 1968 George Alfred Mather 72 72 Living in Bolton, Lancashire in 1901 and 1911 with parents George and Ellen.

May Mather of Flat 9, 29 Prices Avenue, Liverpool, spinster died 16 June 1957 at the Royal Infirmary, Liverpool.  Probate Liverpool 23 Aug to Douglas Bowman Civil Servany.  £1460 13s 1860 - 1926 William Nelson 66 66 Joseph Brown or William Nelson based on FreeBMD.  William is a perfect match!

In Q1 1882, William Nelso and Clara Ann Mather married.  Emily and James's births were registered at Little Bolton, and the others at Sharples, except for Adeline in 1896 which was at Little Bolton again..

In 1900, after William Mather died at 77 Grasmere Street, William and Clara Ann Nelson took over the house.

In 1901, William, a Cloth Presser and Packer, and Clara A (both 71) were at 77 Grasmere Street with 5 children.

In 1911, William and Clara Ann (51 & 50) were at 77 Grasmere Street, Bolton 1882 - 1919 Emily Nelson 37 37 Living in Little Bolton in 1901 with parents William and Clara Ann.

Emily was 28 in 1911.

Emily didn't marry.  She died 77 Grasmere Street (registered in Little Bolton) 23 Dec 1919, aged 37. 1884 - 1965 James Nelson 81 81 Living in Little Bolton in 1901 with parents William and Clara Ann, and had left home by 1911.

In 1910, James marred Florence Nelson. 

In 1911, James and Florence (27 & 25) were living at 21 Canada Street, had been married one year and had no children.

In 1939 register shows a James Nelson born 14 April 1884 married to Mary Alice Allen.  This must be another as James was born Q1 1884.

In 1939, James Nelson born 25 Jan 1884 was a Painter & decorator, and a Widow, living alone at 30 McNanna Street, Bolton.

James died in 1965, aged 81 1887 Elizabeth (Lizzie) Nelson Living in Little Bolton in 1901 with parents William and Clara Ann.

In 1911, Elizabeth married Harold Thornton at the Wesleyan Chapel, Seymour Road, Astley Bridge.  Her sister Ettie also marrioed there in 1920. 1890 - 1975 Clara Nelson 84 84 Aged 10 months in 1891 living with parents at 23 Grant Street, Sharples

Was still Clara Hilton in 1941 (probate of mother) 1894 - 1967 Hetty (Ettie) Nelson 73 73 Ellie (?) was living in Little Bolton in 1901 with parents William and Clara Ann.  In 1911, she is named Hetty.

in 1920, Ettie married Christopher Haslam.

In 1939, Christopher and Ettie were at 46 Primrose Street, Bolton with Ettie's mother, Clara A Nelson (widow).  They had no children.

Ethel A Mather that married Herbert Longworth in Bolton in 1922 is another (born 14 Mar 1897).

In 1934, Ethel married William Pendlebury at Bolton, New Jerusalem Church, Higher Bridge Street, Bolton (or she may have married John Pilkington in 1935 at Bolton, Claremont Baptist Chapel, St Georges Road but thet Ethel was born in 1894).

In 1939, William and Ether were at 7 Badder Street, Bolton with one unknown (possibly illegitimate) child.

In 1978, Ethel died at Stocks Park House, Stocks Park Drive, Horwich leaving £5,019. 1904 - 1972 Harry Mather 68 68 There's marriage records for Harry Mather in Bolton in 1921, 1925 and 1929, but dont know which one is him.  Brook Bowman's tree has him married to May Seswick with two daughters.

In 1939, Harry was still single.  He married May Beswick in 1941.

1957, When sister Emily died a spinster, Harry was a master plasterer.

In 1939, Charles W Hilton (DOB 28-Aug-84), a school's caretaker and Clara were living at 6 Hamilton Street, Bolton.  Thay had no children.

Before he died, Charles W Hilton (Charlie) was a School's Caretaker for an Elementary School, probably the Astley Bridge Methodist Chapel Schoolroom.

In 1939, Christopher and Ettie were at 46 Primrose Street, Bolton with Ettie's mother, Clara A Nelson (widow).  They had no children. 1894 - 1988 Ernest Holt 94 94 Ernest was the son of Cornelius Holt (1849-1931) and Mary Fairclough (1856-1926).

Ernest and Adeline had two children, Arthur and Jessie,  baptised at All Souls, Little Bolton in 1925 & 1933 whild living at 5 Ruby Street.

In 1939, Ernest, a boot and shoe repairer, and Adeline were living at 5 Rugby St, Bolton, with two others (assumed their children) 1925 - 2020 Arthur Holt 94 94 Arthur married Nancy Wood, daughter of Samuel and Edith A Wood who were also Boot and Shoe Repairers.

In 2003, Arthur and Nancy were living at North Lodge, Worden Lane, Leyland  PR25 3DH 1933 - 2009 Jessie Holt 76 76 1885 - 1924 Selina (Kit) Aspinall 39 39 1885 - 1974 Mary Elizabeth Hampson 89 89 This is probably Mary Elizabeth Burnskill of Blackburn or Mary Elizabeth Thornton of Burnley, both born 3 June 1855.
