- Death Notes
- Sophie accompanied Richard Rueger and family when they returned to Germany (Bremen) 7 April 1922. Richard felt betrayed by the British after he was interned towards the end of the first world war and wanted to return to his homeland. Unfortunately, they returned to Germany just as the great depression hit with hyper-inflation and effectively lost all the money they had taken with them. They were assisted with accommodation in Bremen by the Dunkacke family.
Sadly, Richard only lasted 18 months and died 25 October 1923. The family then struggled to survive and lived through the Hitler years. They held on to their British passports, however (hiding them from the authorities), and when Bremen was liberated by the British in 1945, they were repatriated to the UK. Ronald V, in the meantime, had escaped to England (not sure exactly when) before he could be called up to the German army and, there, joined the British Army! When the remainder of the family were repatriated, one of the first things Ronald did was persuade them all to change their name from Rueger to Rogers (to avoid any possible repercussions from the British people). He had already changed his.
