  • Maria recorded she was widowed in 1863 on her 1884 mattiage to William Brereton.  However, this seems unlikely as there is no death record for John Walter DeGruchy, and he marriad again in Jersey in 1865 (describing himself as a widow).  He was still alive in 1869 when awarded a certificate for Master Marinner.
