Ralph was born in December 1881 in Uppermill.1  Ralph's father was Henry Schofield and his mother was Fanny Schofield.  His paternal grandparents were William Schofield and Nanny Buckley; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin (Ben) Schofield and Elizabeth Sykes. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Ben, Fred and Nannie.  He was the second youngest of the five known children.
