Ellen was born in December 1837 in Worsley.1  Ellen's father was Samuel Rothwell and her mother was Mary Fletcher. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Joseph and Emma.  She was the oldest of the five known children.  She died at the age of 84 in 1921 in Idaho (ID).2

‌Ellen and John were married in a religious ceremony on January 1st, 1855 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).3   They had three sons named Edward, James and Charles.  There are possibly more children.
