George was born in September 1858 in Huddersfield.1  George's father was James Robinson and his mother was Mary Knight.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Robinson and Amelia (Emma) Maplestone. He had two sisters named Annie and Amelia.  He was the oldest of the three known children.
