Martha's father was William Medley and her mother was Hannah Hainsworth. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, Mary and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, Robert, Emily and Zilpha.
