Nancy's father was William Mather and her mother was Jane Heys. She had two brothers and a sister, named James, Joseph and Mary. She was the oldest of the four children.

  In 1871, John and Nancy (24 & 18) were at 26 Cusent Court, Farnworth.
  
  In 1881 Nancy Southern (28) was at 24 Brown Street, Little Bolton with daughter Mary (6) and two lodgers.
  
  7 June 1886 Nancy Southern, widow married James Wilson a labourer. Her father was William Mather, and Overlooker.
  
  2 Jan 1899, Nancy Wilson (45), daughter of William Mather an Overlooker married Israel Howarth (48), both of Peel at Peel Chapel, Little Hulton.
