Lilian's father was Walter Palmer Mather and her mother was Mary Ellen Chadwick. She had three brothers and a sister, named George, Reuben, Harry and Ethel.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at 9 months old in December 1884 in Haslingden.¹
