John was born in June 1781 in Little Hulton and his baptism took place on June 3rd, 1781 at Peel Chapel.1  John's father was John Mather and his mother was Mary Watkin (Wid).  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had a sister named Betty.  He was the younger of the two children.
