Isabella's father was William Mather and her mother was Susan (Susannah) Openshaw.  Her maternal grandparents were Robert Openshaw and Elizabeth (Isabella or Bella) Piklington. She had a brother and a sister, named Thomas and Susannah.  She was the second oldest of the three children.  She died at 9 months old in June 1872 in Bolton.²
