Daniel was born on April 14th, 1706 in Middle Hulton and his baptism took place on May 1st, 1706 at St. Nicholas (L'pool).1  Daniel's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Alice Pendlebury.  His paternal grandparents were Johannis (John) Mather and Elizabeth Mather. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the four children.
