Fred's father was George Lockton and his mother was Elizabeth Yates.  His maternal grandparents were John Yates and Martha Rothwell. He had three brothers and a sister, named Harry, John, Harold and Martha.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 75 in April 1968 in Farnworth.²
