Richard was born in 1858 in Yorkshire.  Richard's father was Edward George Lister and his mother was Catherine Mary Robinson.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Robinson and Mary Ann Dawson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Charles, George, John, Mary and Catherine.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 43 in 1901 in Birkenhead.1
