Maria was born in 1866 in Dobcross.  Maria's father was Thomas Wordsworth Lawton and her mother was Elizabeth Tibbett.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Lawton and Jane. She had a sister named Jane.  She was the younger of the two children.  She died at the age of 23 in 1889 in Saddleworth.
