Ellen was born on September 21st, 1786 in Blackburn and her baptism took place on January 6th, 1787 at Walmsley Presbyterian.1  Ellen's father was Philip Kershaw and her mother was Agnes Knowles. She had a brother named John.  She was the younger of the two children.
