Joseph's father was John Heaton and his mother was Mary Alice Woods.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Martin Woods and Alice Hannah Wadsworth. He had two brothers named Alice and John.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 52 on November 4th, 1966 in Bolton.  He was buried in November 1966 at St. Mary (Deane).¹
