James was born on August 6th, 1834 in Toxteth Park and his baptism took place there on November 20th, 1834.1  James' father was Thomas Murray Gladstone and his mother was Frances Eddowes. He had three brothers named Alfred, Walter and Herbert.  He was the oldest of the four known children.
