Ian was born on June 25th, 1914 in Birkenhead.1   Ian's father was John Gillies and his mother was Eliza Astbury. He had two sisters named Ella and Lallie.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 76 on April 24th, 1991 in Bebington.2
