Mary, known as Margaret, was born in 1858 in Yorkshire.1  Margaret's father was William Crosland and her mother was Sarah Williamson. She had four brothers and a sister, named Edwin, Bland, William, Arthur and Alice.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
