Elizabeth's father was John Buckley and her mother was Mary Ann Meller. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Buckley and Jane Buckley; her maternal grandparents were James Meller and <unknown>. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Samuel, Sarah and Fanny. She was the second oldest of the five children.
