Oliver was born in June 1853 in Longwood.1  Oliver's father was Joseph Broom and his mother was Elizabeth Lumb. He had a brother and a sister, named Thomas and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 3 in September 1856 in Leymoor Bottom.1
