Mary's father was Thomas Brereton and her mother was Frances Stokes.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton Snr and Mary Whittingham. She had two brothers named George and Thomas.  She was the second oldest of the three children.

‌Mary and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony on September 30th, 1810 in Betley.¹   The family line is yet to be completed.
