John was born in October 1732 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on October 18th, 1732.1  John's father was Joseph Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Simpson.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Joseph, Elenor and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the five children.

‌John and <Unknown> were married.  They had a daughter named Katherine.
