John's father was John Brereton and his mother was Betty Edwards.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton Snr and Mary Whittingham. He had a brother and two sisters, named Samuel, Kitty and Mary.  He died in March 1797 in Bridgemere.  He was buried on March 15th, 1787 in Wybunbury.1
