John was born in March 1698 in Hough and his baptism took place on March 17th, 1698 in Wybunbury.1  John's father was Thomas Brereton and his mother was <Unknown>. He had three brothers and a sister, named Hugh, Joseph, Elizabeth and Susanna.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
