Emma was born in December 1840 in Hatherton and her baptism took place on December 9th, 1840 in Wybunbury.1 2  Emma's father was Charles Brereton and her mother was Mary Jones.  Her paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Elizabeth Brereton. She had a sister named Fanny.  She was the older of the two children.
