Abraham was born in 1806 in Malpas and his christening took place there on May 2nd, 1806.1  Abraham's father was Thomas Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Barrow. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Benjamin, Barnabas, John, George and Ellen.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.
