Mary was born in September 1924 in West Derby.1  Mary's father was Harold Evelyn Bentley and her mother was Florence M Houghton. She had two brothers and a sister, named Harold, John and Emma.  She was the youngest of the four children.  She died at the age of 75 in 1999.

‌Mary and David were married in a religious ceremony in December 1944 in Liverpool.2  They had two sons named Alan and David.  There are possibly more children.
