François was born in 1642 in Étoutevile, Rouen, France.  François' father was Louis II Gagné and his mother was Marie Michel.  His paternal grandparents were Louis Gagné-Gasnier and Marie de Launay; his maternal grandparents were Pierre Michel and Louise Gory. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Ignace, Louis III, Louise and Anne.  He died at the age of 68 on August 27th, 1710 in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, Montmorency, Qc, Canada.
