Jean-Baptiste was born on November 28th, 1680 in Beaumont, Qc, Canada.  Jean-Baptiste's father was Bernard Gonthier and his mother was Marguerite Pasquier.  His paternal grandparents were Jean Gonthier and Marie Lay; his maternal grandparents were Étienne Paquet and Jeanne Poussarde. He had a brother named Louis.  He was the younger of the two known children. He had a half-sister named Catherine.  He died at the age of 69 on December 8th, 1749 in St-Charles, Bellechasse, Qc, Canada.
