Robert was born in 1647 in Québec,.  Robert's father was Robert Caron and his mother was Marie-Catherine Crevet.  His paternal grandfather is Jehan Caron and his paternal grandmother was Marguerite St-Vivien; his maternal grandparents were Pierre Crevet and Marie Le Mercier. He had a brother and two sisters, named Jean-Baptiste, Marie and Catherine.  He was the third oldest of the four children.
