Moshe's father was Marius Shaltiel and his mother was Esther Castoriano (Shaltiel).  His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Yehuda Castoriano and Cochava Castoriano.  He is the second of eight children.  He has three brothers and four sisters, named Yehuda, Yomtov, Jako, Yona, Cochava, Rachel and Ida.
