Charles of's father is Charlemagne of Pepin III and his mother is Hildegarde de Gerold II. His paternal grandparents are Pepin III Charles and Bertrada II Caribert; his maternal grandfather is Gerold II Gerold I. He is the third of nine children. He has three brothers and five sisters, named Lothar of, Louis I, Pepin I, Adelaide daughter, Bertha daughter, Gisela daughter, Hildegarde daughter and Rotrud daughter.
