William was born in 1106 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England.1 William's father was Sir Geoffrey Say and his mother was Hawise Clare. His paternal grandparents were Sir William Say and Agnes Grandmesnil; his maternal grandfather is Gilbert Clare (FitzRichard) and his maternal grandmother was Adelisa Beauvais Clermont. He was an only child. He died after August 1144 in Cambridgeshire, England.1 General Notes
