Her maternal grandparents were Levi Phillips and Hannah Matilda Hallowell. She had three brothers and four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Clayton, Boy, Henry, *Girl*, Edith , Martha, Loretta and Cora. She was the youngest of the nine children.-
