Litman's father was Hersz Ber SZWARC and his mother was Laia EIZNER.  His paternal grandparents were Mordechaj SZWARC and Hana; his maternal grandparents were Samuel AJZNER and Unnamed. He had three brothers and a sister, named Mordechai, Mosiek, Szmul and Hana.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Issucher.
