Rafael was born in 1915 in Smyrna, Greece. Rafael's father was Salomon ENRIQUEZ-SARANO and his mother was Rachel AZUBEL. His paternal grandparents were Isaac ENRIQUEZ-SARANO and Boulissa Clara. He had a brother and two sisters, named Samuel, Fortunata and Leona.
