Maria Helene was born on November 9th, 1818 in Lummen.  Maria Helene's father was Pierre Jean Peeters and her mother was Marie Thérèse Buntens.  Her maternal grandparents were Pieter Buntens and Catharina Dirickx. She had a brother and two sisters, named Augustinus, Victoria and Carolina.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
