Martinus Pierre was born on November 11th, 1731 in Heusden Zolder.1   Martinus Pierre's father was Antonius Gathoffs and his mother was Helena Schreven.  His paternal grandparents were Jacobus (arnoldus) Gathoffs and Christina Vanderheyden. He had three brothers named Jean François, Antoine and Paul.  He was the second oldest of the four sons.
