Josephus Alphonsus was born on December 15th, 1870 in Koersel.¹ Josephus Alphonsus' father was Ludovicus (Louis) Gaethofs and his mother was Maria Philomena Leten. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Gaethofs and Maria Susanne Lamberechts. He had a brother and three sisters, named Petrus Joannes, Maria Clementina, Maria Theresia and Maria Catharina. He was the third oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 19 on July 9th, 1890 in Montegnée Luik.
