Lewis W. was born in 1880.  Lewis W.'s father was James Riggens Van Winkle and his mother was Mary Elizabeth Bicknell.  His maternal grandparents were Sylvester W. Bicknell and Nancy Rose Bicknell.  He was the third of five children.  He had a brother and three sisters, named Wilson S., Ellen Margaret, Florence and Martha Mattie Ellen.  He died at the age of 97 in 1977.
