Short was born in 1923.  Short's father was Troy Isaacs and his mother was Mary C. Stewart.  His paternal grandparents were Curtis C. Isaacs and Susan Jane Bicknell; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Riley Stewart and Josephine Asbell.  He was the fourth of six children.  He had a brother and four sisters, named Alson, Etta S., Zelma, Nora and Dortha.  He died at the age of 70 in 1993.
