George was born in 1879.  George's father was George C. Harp and his mother was Charlotte Asbill.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph Asbell and Mary Paulina or Polly Harp.  He was the youngest of eight children.  He had two brothers and five sisters, named William Scott, Levi, Mary, Elizabeth, Dora, Eva and Molly.
