Mcelyea or Mack was born on March 4th, 1825.  Mcelyea or Mack's father was John Lowery Goodman and his mother was Amelia Hulen.  His maternal grandparents were Ambrose Hulen and Jane Bicknell.  He was the oldest of seven children.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named William Harrison, James L., Martha Jane, Lucy Ann, Cyntha or Cynthia Ann and Rhoda.
