Elbridge's father was Ebb Cox and his mother was Alma Azbill.  His maternal grandparents were Albin M. Azbill and Margaret Serena Cruise.  He is the third of five children.  He has two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Sherman, Margaret and Effie.
