Charles Alfred was born on October 19th, 1878.  Charles Alfred's father was Alfred Bicknell and his mother was Mary Ellen Fitzpatrick.  His paternal grandparents were Mumford Bicknell and Nancy Ashby.  He was the youngest of eleven children.  He had nine brothers and a sister, named Joseph Riley, William Franklin, George W., Obede Morton, Alfred Marion, Ulissis Grant, John Thompson, David Emery, Leroy Johnson and Nancy Jane.
